NOVEMBER is beginning to tease us with its warm embrace — and I couldn’t be happier. Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about our new season wardrobes.
I love summer’s heat and humidity (my oily skin positively glistens in the moist sticky conditions). I also love that you can wear less clothing — or should I say less layers! And don’t forget those long days and warm nights that call for simple slips, tunics or dresses and you’re out the door in a flash.
But the queen of summer dressing is the humble kaftan. Born of a need to “cover” the requisite swimsuit, the kaftan is so much more. Worn on its own with sandals, belted or tied at the side over pants, jeans or shorts, it will take you from poolside to the patio with ease.
A STYLISH LIFE with NATALIE KNOLL (from Bird & Knoll)
In fact, this Bird & Knoll Resort Riviera kaftan in Parisian ink (it’s also available in island white and Amalfi sea) will become a summer essential. Part of the brand’s new Per Tutti collection of scarves, cover-ups and ponchos, this classically simple kaftan will provide countless looks — as I have done here.
Team with neutral separates such as stone, khaki or black. Or if your prefer a bit of colour try emerald green, coral pink or orange. Take it up a notch with prints and patterns — in complementary tones, of course. Or add a touch of glam with the gorgeous Bird And Knoll cashmere and modal scarves, an armful of cuffs or statement necklace. For after-dark, add embellished sandals and monogrammed clutch. But the best accessory is a fake tan.
The options are endless; you’re only limited by your imagination — and your wardrobe, or course!
